Dynamic Behavior of the Transition Zone of an Integral Abutment Bridge

Weaker sections of a railway track, such as the approach sections, are prone to differential settlement under action repeated train loads. The tracks degrade more quickly at critical section adjacent traditional rail bridge because progressive deterioration. Opting for an integral abutment instead is gaining importance due its improved performance in terms track stiffness and reduced settlement. It essential understand issues with appropriate methodologies. This study investigates behavior transition zone subjected loading. Generally, two-part wedge consisting unbound granular material cement bound mixture. A field monitored system used validate developed two-dimensional Finite Element (FE) model. model further simulate dynamic against varying speeds train. parametric performed on by geometric configurations considering different materials backfill. results indicate that trapezoidal slab influences displacement significantly. thickness properties backfill have greater effect overall response. Based results, stable zones identified cater gradual variation during train–track interaction.
